Elisha Cuthbert is constantly changing the length of her hair. Not that this is a bad thing, I mean, you never want to seem too predictable do you? But I, personally, think she looks best with her hair medium length (perhaps not in this particular photo). It suits her face the best - long draws it down a bit; short gives her a somewhat androgynous look. What do you think? Long, short, or medium length?

In more Elisha related news, the photo on the far right is part of a bunch taken of Elisha in a bikini, looking a lot slimmer than usual. Has she lost weight? Sometimes people's weight appears to be different depending on their hairstyle, so this could just be one of those times. The photos were taken at Miami's South Beach (yep, just like the diet. Lol) where Elisha was spending her New Year's Eve.

Yesterday, I found out that longtime InStyle Australia editor Nicky Briger has recently moved to WHO magazine's top position. As for WHO's former editor Jane Nicholls, well she's headed over to the US to be People magazine's editor-at-large. Wow, that's a big deal. Congratulations to both ladies!

Best Dresses of 2007

Whilst I was reading everyone else's lists, I found myself saying quite a few times oh no, but you left out... So I decided, I'd compile my own list. Now, I'm pretty sure I've left out a few, because it's a fairly short list, so let's just say these are, in my opinion, the Best Dresses of 2007 as far as I can remember. Lol.

Beyonce -- American Music Awards.
Hands down number 1 Best Dress. I read somewhere that it was designed by Elie Saab, but I think they made a mistake, so now I'm lost.

Rihanna -- MTV Video Music Awards.
These One-Name wonders never seem to get it wrong, do they?

Mary-Kate Olsen -- The Costume Institute's Party of the Year.
Knowing MK, this dress is probably covered in real animal fur/feathers. So I feel bad for thinking it's so gorgeous...

Christina Aguilera -- Clive Davis' Annual pre-Grammy Party.
Pre-pregnancy revelation, Christina positively dazzles in this shimmery number, designer (despite my efforts) unknown.

Thandie Newton -- Fendi Fashion Show in China.
Thandie shines in this sunny Fendi gown. Mis-matched clutch? That's hot.

Kate Winslet -- BAFTA/LA Awards.
There's just something about this dress that makes it undeniably striking. The wide, black belt is right on trend. Good work, as always, Kate.

Sorry about the lack of designer names. I tried my best to find who each dress is designed by, but I failed...I will make it my mission to find out eventually, though!

A scary new direction for Chloe

Chloe in my mind, much like their ads, has always been about flirty, floral dresses, beachy hair and lots of oranges, light browns, pastel pinks and whites, with a real nostalgic feel. The same with you? Well, get ready because Chloe has recruited a new creative director Paolo Melim Andersson (previously at Marni), and he's got a whole new idea of what Chloe should be about.
I was flipping through the new issue of NewWoman magazine, and came across a mini-interview with Mr. Andersson (lol) himself.

Describe the new Chloe woman...
She is smart, strong, confident and trusts her own judgment. She loves to break the rules.
Where has the new direction come from?
I wanted to get away from being 'flirty', because the Chloe girl is independent with her head screwed on straight.
What are the key looks for the new winter collection?
Tailoring is important; I wanted cleaner lines so the dresses land effortlessly.
What can we expect in seasons to come?
There's going to be a brand new era with less nostalgia and a less branded look.

So basically, the exact opposite of what the brand is loved for. Well, I suppose a little (or in this case, a big) change never hurt anyone. Right?

High School Trendspotting: GUESS? bags

Ok, so this FT has reached a further demographic than my high school 'trendies', but it's still an FT (not to mention, my favourite FT) so I'm going to write about it anyway. Lol.
As the days go by, more and more GUESS? by Marciano bags have been gracing my presence. Not on my shoulder, unfortunately, but on the shoulders of others.

I work in customer service, which means I get to see what everyone's carrying, and believe me I see at least 4 or 5 GUESS? bags come in and out of my work in a 4 hour shift. At least I have something nice to look at as the hours go by. Lol.

Queen Small Hobo for fun

My advice? If you haven't already got yourself a GUESS? bag (or, say...4) then definitely give it a go. Some people think following fashion trends is weak...these people have obviously never owned a a bag by Marciano.

Christmas Wishlist: Polaroid Camera

Dear Mr. Polaroid Camera,
All i want for Christmas is...you.

That's right the Polaroid One 600 Classic camera has topped my Christmas Wishlist this year. I don't even know if these kind are sold here in Australia, but I'm determined to own one before next year, or before term starts next year at the latest.
I believe that it's too early for 90s fashion to be coming back, but I never said anything about 90s technology. Lol. Remember back when the Spice Girls were the poster girls for Polaroid? They even released their own special Spice Polaroid camera! Sorry, got lost in memory lane for a second there. Well if the Spice Girls can make a comeback, so can Polaroid cameras! What's digital photography compared to instant, anyway?

Hot new shoe trend: Jelly

If anyone was in doubt that 'everything old is new again', then surely this new trend will persuade even the greatest of doubters.
As far as I'm aware, jelly flats and sandals are a fairly new trend this year, having only just recently started popping up everywhere.
To be honest, I'm not the hugest fan. Sure they're cute, and maybe comfortable (I haven't tried on a pair since I was 6), but I think it's a bit too early for 90s fashion to be making it's way back. I have no problem with other people wearing them, though. A friend of mine owns a green pair and she looks totally hot! But this is one trend I won't be investing in anytime soon. Will I be eating my words? Only time will tell...

These jelly sandals are tiny bit more my style. If I can find a cute enough pair in pink or blue then I'll probably be a sheep in this regard, and follow this one.

For a perfect pout...

Unfortunately, I'm still at home with that head cold. And as we all know, one of the unfortunate side effects of a head cold (besides the obvious ones) is chapped lips. I hate chapped lips, almost as much as I hate my nose to be blocked. But never fear, I have the answer.

Hit or Miss?

I believe there's an old saying coined for starlets who land themselves on 'questionable fashion' lists more than once: 'Dress me bad once - shame on you, dress me bad twice - shame on me'. I'm sorry but, get yourself a new stylist, girl!
It's wonderful that Amy is taking risks, I admire her courage. But this is all wrong. She's pale so black usually wouldn't be a big problem, but she's chosen to wear her hair up which makes the whole thing look too sharp and takes away the potential warmth her skin colour could achieve in this outfit. The red lipstick clashes with her hair. And the bow...well do I really need to say it?
Unfortunately, for me, this is a definite miss. But what do you think? Did the Enchantress herself get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Ad Campaigns I Love...part II

I'm feeling a little under the weather today (it's bucketing down with rain over here, so in this case, pun not intended. Lol), so naturally I'm experiencing major writer's block (which will come in handy when making my excuse for not writing my pre-term biology essay as plausible as possible). Therefore I can't think of anything to write about why I love these ads. So here they are:

Well, it's pretty obvious why GUESS? ads will always have a place in my heart, considering it's my favourite brand. But this year they recruited Australian model Jessica Hart (pictured top) as one of the few gorgeous faces of the brand. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi! Lol.
fashionologie is coining this Olga Sherer (pictured middle) for Lanvin pairing the new Sasha P for Prada. Oh my, I hope so. What a fierce and powerful duo that was. I quite like this ad, the only thing I don't like is Olga's facial expression, it's a bit scary and alien-like (click the picture to see full size). But other than that it's beautiful...fluid, contrasting colour, great styling. Beautiful.
Wheels & Dollbaby (pictured bottom) can do no wrong in my mind. Ever classy and seductive but never trashy, slutty or OTT. And that's just their ad campaigns. The real magic starts with the clothes...

Well I suppose that wasn't too bad, with cold caps clouding my mind, eh? Lol.

High School Trendspotting: Country Road bags

I don't know about anywhere else, but here in Australia these bags are positively famous, and for some reason an absolute must-have for any girl (sometimes even guys) going through the later stages of high school. What is it about these bags that make them a cult favourite? I'm not really sure, I've never seen the 'absolute must-have' attraction of the bags, which explains why I don't have one myself. It's not that I have anything against them -- they're huge, sturdy and can come in some nice colours. But I'm not bothering, because rest-assured I'm sure they won't remain en vogue for too much longer.

See they're a pretty regular bag. My guess is that they're size was originally what everyone was looking for, then after everyone had one for practicality, they became an 'IT' bag. It's strange, but then again, it's high school. (sorry, it's not the most glamorous photo, but it does the trick.)

Ok, these might take a moment to digest, so brace yourself. I'll start with the slightly less shocking celebrity-pregnancy-revelation just to build up the suspense, shall I?

Lily Allen is pregnant

Much like Jessica Alba, I did not see this one coming. I like Lily Allen, a lot, and I think she's going to make a great mum to be honest -- but I'm just really...surprised, for some reason.
Lily, 22, has been seeing the father of her baby, The Chemical Brothers singer Ed Simons, 37, since September.

"As the pregnancy is at a very, very early stage, the couple ask that you respect their privacy, as the health of Lily and their child is their paramount concern."

says they're rep.

Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant

Fallen of your chair yet?

Jamie Lynn (who is apparently more than 12 weeks into her pregnancy) and mother Lynne have given OK! magazine an exclusive interview, revealing that the 16 year old sister of Britney is keeping her baby. The starlet insists that her somewhat-long-term-boyfriend Casey Aldridge, 19, is the father. Lynne Spears was set to release a parenting book, giving inside details on raising her two star-struck daughters, but the release of the book has been postponed indefinitely.

"We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."

Nickelodeon released this statement soon after the announcement.

Will the search ever end...?

I read this extremely informative article a few weeks back, and have now bookmarked it as a sort of 'bra buying guide'.
The Search for the Right Fit is a comprehensive list of what bra shopping for a big busted woman is really like, written by Sari Botton. She admits it's hard (amen to that!), but gives us an advantage by telling us what the lingerie market is really offering.
Definitely worth a look, for women of all bust sizes.

He said this on a YouTube video I was just watching -- 'David Cassidy: the story of...' It was fascinating! I even got a bit choked up at times. Definitely worth a watch.

Miley Cyrus takes a well-earned shopping break, after adding new dates to her sell-out tour. Usually I hate it when 'Hit or Miss's feature celebrities out and about, because it's unfair to judge people on their everyday outfits, and I swore I would never do it. But I'm totally loving this outfit, I've only put it here to find out what everyone else thinks of it.

High School Trendspotting: Lurex Metallic Stripe Scarves

There's nothing better than lurex to glam up an outfit. And in what better form than a scarf?
Ever since, say September-October these have been everywhere. But it's great, because they're gorgeous! I haven't had the time to pick one up for myself but I borrowed my friend's the other night at a party, and am not looking forward to giving it back. Lol.

It's really just an ordinary lightweight, white scarf with tassles, but the metalic stripe (sounds a bit NASCAR, doesn't it? Lol) really jazzes it up. This one above is from ASOS which is an online store, based in the UK. Here in Australia, people are mostly wearing their lurex scarves that they bought months ago, probably from Sportsgirl, but Dotti is still stocking them in peach and other colours; Just Jeans were stocking the white ones, with blue metallic stripes a few weeks back, but I haven't seen any since...Glassons are still stocking them in white, and other colours, also.

For those of you dealing with winter weather at present (lucky. It's way too hot over here), thick scarves (e.g. pashmina's for sophistication and style), are an excellent option to keep the scarf trend going.

High School Trendspotting: Short Shorts and Long Cardigans

Yay! Finally an FT that works my way, lol! I've worn this combination of clothing many a time this year, and loved every minute of it.
Used to seeing the usual Daisy Duke denim cut off short shorts? No wonder you're not enthusiastic about this trend (not that there's anything wrong with these, but denim Daisy Dukes have some, let's say, risqué associations). Get creative and interpret/alternate this trend to make it your own. I've mostly seen loose fabric short shorts (that are mighty short, rest assured) this year, but denim is always hot so don't get down if that's how you'd like it. Whatever floats your boat.
Now for my favourite part, the cardi. Being a woman of a somewhat curvaceous stature, I have many body parts that I like to cover up. Cardi's are my best friend, for that very reason, especially long ones. Light, breezy, laid-back: perfect for summer.

Do I really need to talk about how wonderful I think Mr. De La Renta is? I mean sure, I want to, I could do it all day, but is it really necessary? The middle outfit is my favourite, and as much I love black tights, I think a few seem to be a bit bored with them: De La Renta has their problems solved.

Zac Posen

I know that Zac Posen has some sort of cult celebrity following, over on the other side of the world, but I really don't understand it. Sure a lot of his clothes are cute and pretty, but let's be honest, he's no John Galliano. Zac Posen is great for simplicity, though.

Jessica Alba is pregnant

"I can confirm that Jessica and Cash are expecting a baby in late spring, early summer," says rep Brad Cafarelli.
Wow, I did not see this one coming. I always knew Jessica wanted a family but this is just a major shock. She's so young! Oh well, she's lovely so I'm sure she'll make the best mum.

Jodie Foster comes out of the closet

Jodie Foster has finally come out as a lesbian to pay tribute to her lover of 14 years. After winning an award at a Women in Entertainment breakfast , she broke her taboo to thank "my beautiful Cydney."
"Perhaps it was because her children are getting older and she didn't want them to think there was anything wrong with being gay. Perhaps she was simply sick and tired of life in the closet. Whatever her reasons, we are pleased that Jodie found the courage to be true to herself." says Kathy Belge, of the Lesbian Life website.

Good for her! It's been speculated for years, and now the truth finally comes out (oh whoops, pun not intended). I think it's great that lesbian women out there dealing with expressing their sexuality now have a strong, independent woman to really look up to.

EDIT: Tina Turner's former husband, Ike, has died. He was 76 years old. Tina's rep made this statement to the press, "Tina hasn’t had any contact with Ike in more than 30 years. No further comment will be made."

Movies To Watch At Christmas Time

Oh my gosh, it's exactly 2 weeks to go, everybody!
Everybody's favourite holiday is creeping up on us and I, for one, am stressing. I don't have half as much to do as all those legendary women cooking Christmas breakfast and/or lunch and/or dinner, and yet I'm still feeling claustrophobic with how fast the weeks are going by. There's just not enough time! What to do when feelings like this are overwhelming your thoughts? Why not watch a good old comfort movie.
Now that it's Christmas, comfort movies are theme-restrictive (mostly). I, myself, haven't actually seen many Christmas themed movies, but those I have seen have landed themselves on my comfort movies list.
Here are my favourite movies to watch at Christmas time.

The Santa Clause
Wow, it really doesn't get much better than this, as far as Christmas movies are concerned. A wonderfully original idea (the main character accidentally 'kills' Santa and must takes his place as part of the Santa 'Clause'...haha), complimented by couldn't-be-more-perfect-for-the-character Tim Allen and Eric Lloyd as his adorable son. When I think of Christmas, this movie starts playing in my mind...Love it.

Home Alone 1 & 2
To be honest, I prefer Home Alone 2, but number 1 was the original so it's a must-watch anyway. Home Alone 2 is perfect. The music, the setting (ah, New York...), the actors, the story...There's not really much else I can say, except those who haven't seen this one (see Home Alone 1 first), you are missing out, definitely give it a go.

The Holiday
This movie only came out last year, so it hasn't quite acquired a position on many people's Favourite Xmas Movie lists, but don't worry, it will. You're probably thinking, 'house swapping, been there done that', but it's so much more than that. It's about love, family, supporting yourself and your loved ones and being true to who you really are. Painfully sweet, at times, with some delightful eye candy (oh, Jude Law...), the Holiday has it all.

Love Actually
Ok, I want to keep this short, because I could go on about how perfect and sweet and most of all true to life this movie is and how much I love it, forever. An intriguing look at the relationships of 8 (I'm pretty sure it's 8) different character's, around Christmas time. Is there any better way to spread love and warmth than by making an inspirational movie like Love Actually (with regards to film, at least)? I love this movie, and more importantly its message, and always will...

Chanel Pre-Fall 2008 Collection

Oh, Mr Lagerfeld how unpredictable you are!
Karl Lagerfeld and a gaggle of his most glamorous posse made their made to London this week to present a very special collection of luxury clothing, right between ready-to-wear and haute couture. At first, I kept asking myself why? Later, I realised why not? All the time is the right time for a fashion show. But the real reason is, I think, to cater for the smaller sized foreign women glamorizing the U.K. right now, looking for something luxe to drape themselves in. That's all I could get from Style.com's reasoning. Does that make me dumb? Oh well, that's life.
One word: black. Seriously, there was no confusion with this collection (grey area, ha get it?). Anyway, I was scared for a while there when it was being said that black tights and heels were out, that being one of my favourite ever outfit additions...but I wasn't buying that anyway.

My black observation still stands (but, as you can see, there was the odd splash of colour here and there). However, if it's a fashionable hyphenated adjective that you're looking for, punk-chic was this collection to a tee.

Even though, I'm not exactly loving these two outfits (the black one is my favourite of the two), I would love to be able to wear this kind of dress, just to say I could. But curves and puffy sleeves with a twist of exaggerated bubble-hem don't exactly equal hot.

Very chic collection. Ah, Mr Lagerfeld, you still got it.

Some good old mascara comparison...

Remember my obsession with Chanel Inimitable mascara? Oh don't worry, it's still there but my darling Chanel will now have to share my affection with my new Dior.Which is better, you ask? Tough question...the Diorshow offers beaucoup de length and volume,
but not alot of separation. But, I have to be honest, I was blessed with long lashes (yay for genes! Lol) so length in a mascara isn't that big a deal for me. But I am very self conscious about my eyes and feel that volume is important so that's a plus. Clumping is a tiny problem with Diorshow, but as long as you know how to avoid clumps or at least get rid of them properly then it doesn't matter.
The Chanel really lengthens and separates, but, to put it simply (because I don't really know how else to say it) the Diorshow makes my eyes more noticeable from a distance. Hold it, I just thought of the best solution:

-Chanel Inimitable for day wear
-Diorshow by Dior for night wear

As the evidence plainly shows, they're both wonderful mascaras and for $50 (both same price) they're worth every cent.

I remember when I first started this blog, I was lusting after the new Melissa de la Cruz book 'Crazy Hot', the 4th in 'The Au Pairs' series. Unfortunately, after 6 months, I still am. You Know You Love Her...

It's the show everyone's talking about (and blogging about). Gossip Girl.
The show premiered here in Australia, last night. Thanks to YouTube, I'd already seen it, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable. I can't get enough of it. I want it to be Tuesday everyday, therefore no one would have to wait. Lol.
It's fashion meets gossip meets teenage relevancy with a very sexy twist.
If you're like me, and stare lustfully at Blair and Serena's wardrobes and just...wish, there is help available. Thanks to the darlings at FabSugar, you can get you're Gossip Girl fix as often as you want (well, more as often as it's updated).
I find that behind-the-scenes features on hit TV shows are all part of the fun, so you can imagine my delight to find out that the CW has kindly set up a B-T-S of the fashion featured on GG. Check it out here. Very interesting stuff.
Who is Gossip Girl, I hear you wonder? Those who have read the books are already privy to this information, I'm sure. But us newbies (I've only read the first book, and so far, like the TV show better to be honest) are being good and going to find out the honest way: the internet! Lol, kidding. 2007 Red Carpet Trend: Fuschia

Oh, I just love fuschia. It's one of my favourite colours, especially to wear. So it's great to see Hollywood stars bringing this gorgeous colour back onto the red carpet scene. Roberto Cavalli, Zac Posen and John Galliano, I salute you. Lol.
My advice for adapting this 'special occasion' colour into day-wear: go small-scale. Forget the head-to-toe look, and start with just a hat, shoes or cute jewellery pieces. Then if you're feeling more comfortable with the colour (as it's a fairly bold colour and, naturally, needs to be accompanied with confidence), you can start wearing it in top/skirt form, but never at the same time and never in pants form.
You'll be pretty in pink in no time.

Jennifer Love Hewitt was spending this past weekend, minding her own business, in Hawaii with her new fiance, Ross McCall, when some photographers starting snapping pictures of her from all sorts of bad angles on one particular day they were spending at the beach. All of a sudden, the pictures were popping up everywhere with nasty headlines like "Jennifer Love Hewitt Piles on the Pounds", "Jennifer Love Hewitt's 'Healthy' Bottom" and such...

This is the last time I will address this subject.

I've sat by in silence for a long time now about the way women's bodies are constantly scrutinized. To set the record straight, I'm not upset for me, but for all of the girls out there that are struggling with their body image.

A size 2 is not fat! Nor will it ever be. And being a size 0 doesn't make you beautiful.

What I should be doing is celebrating some of the best days of my life and my engagement to the man of my dreams, instead of having to deal with photographers taking invasive pictures from bad angles. I know what I look like, and so do my friends and family. And like all women out there should, I love my body.

To all girls with butts, boobs, hips and a waist, put on a bikini -- put it on and stay strong.

Fringe Benefits

If someone asked me what the most popular beauty trend of 2007 was (well, is, the year isn't over just yet), I wouldn't even stop to think before saying "bangs". Which is quite funny, because here in Australia we don't even call them bangs, but they're so everywhere, especially beauty blogs from the US, that you can't help but get caught up in the hype!
The latest starlet to get the chop (the very fashionable chop, of course) is Katie Holmes. I don't know about everyone else, but I think she looks simply stunning. Sophisticated, young and effortlessly chic. Liv Tyler is another celebutante joining the Bang-ed Beauties. So cute.

When Nelly Furtado made her amazing comeback last year with her now five-times platinum album Loose, she was catchier, hotter and more stylish than ever. A little while later she started sporting blunt bangs, which all but added to her appeal. It's her best look, in my opinion. Penelope is another recent addition to the bangs crew. How does she get her hair so shiny??

Ah, Kate Moss. Whatever she does, the fashion world follows...sounds like a fault on our part, doesn't it? But you just can't help but be in awe of darling Kate's impeccable style. So when Miss Moss debuted her new chopped 'do, we just new that bangs were 'It' as far as hairstyles go.

And of course, when discussing a fringe one can never go past Anna Wintour. I've heard she's been wearing her hair this way since she was 14. Wow, now that's commitment. Chances are, when a celeb goes to her hairstylist for the big chop, she holds up a picture of Anna and says "I want to look like her!" Will she ever change? I certainly hope not, a trademark is far more powerful than it's given credit for.
