Hot new trend: Blue Eyeshadow

Where I come from, everybody is jumping on the Eyeshadow Bandwagon. Every kind you could imagine: matte, cream, powder, sticks, slicked (etc), and the colours! Oh the colours! A rainbow of one's wildest dreams. But one colour in particular seems to be dominating the shadow scene: blue. Light blue, dark blue, shiny, peppered and all that jazz!

My mother is currently studying naturopathy, which has resulted in an extreme domestic chemical detox. Basically what this means is a surge of undesirable knowledge of the real ingredients in cosmetics. But don't worry, I won't panic any of you with those details right now. I just felt like complaining about this annoyingly incovenient situation. Lol.
But I will say that one particular cosmetic ingredient, Coaltar, is quite hazardous and is the base of alot of blue eyeshadows. I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to this ingredient (but even if I wasn't, I'm sure I wouldn't be "allowed" to use any product which contains it), so that means I'm denied the simple pleasure of going to a beauty store, harmlessly trying on eyeshadows and purchasing my favourite.Instead, I've been researching "safe" brands. This is similar to eco-fashion shopping. Scared at first (big change; thoughts of plain jane, or just plain ugly products), but after a little while, the thought of doing your skin, and the environment, a favour gets the better of you.

Larenim Mineral Makeup -- eye colour collection.

Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics -- Triple Eyeshadows: Truly Denim.
But if you really just can't bear the thought of eco-cosmetic type products, then your old favourites have some truly beautiful blues, too:

1. Bobbi Brown -- Midnight Metallics.
2. Laura Mercier -- Blue Sky Colour Quad.
3. M.A.C. -- Starflash Eye Shadow.

Well, I think I've thoroughly exhausted the topic of blue eyeshadow by now, no?
Hope I've helped, even if it's just a little bit.
Oh and please don't forget to cast you vote(s) in this month's poll on the right hand side of the page.

Catch.

Hot New Trend: knit beret

Ok, so it's not exactly a new trend, but it's still hot. The knit beret. Normally, woolen beanie-type hats are meant to be worn during the colder months (they would seem extremely out-of-place, and not in a good way, being worn during summer). But the knit beret has holes, making it lighter and trendier. Best paired with dark sunnies, a flowing top and tight jeans tucked under boots (add a scarf for warmth, if needed). I'm not the biggest Vanessa Hudgens fan (whom I consider to be the "face" of knit berets, these days), but one can't deny she has style. Personally, I'm all for this trend. Unfortunately, I fear that I may have the wrong shaped head for a hat such as this.
Cameron Diaz, Ashley Tisdale, Keri Russell and
Vanessa Hudgens are all big fans of the knit beret.

Want to know where to find your own? These days, as winter is looming ever closer (yay! I love winter), knit berets and the like are not hard to find - head down to any department store and you're sure to find one in any shape or colour. Specifically, dotti stocks this particular style below...

The pom-pom gives it a really Scottish feel, no? Normally, I would not like this type of hat (above) at all, but the spirit of winter is getting the better of me, and I can't help but think the hat's adorable!
I don't think I'd have the courage to actually wear a hat with a pom-pom this size out in public, unfortunately - in that regard, the plain, flat knit beret is definitely for me.
What do you all think? Is this trend here to stay? Or does it need to go?

Catch.

Pretty in Plaid

Lauren Conrad - always on top of the trends.

Plaid was a trend that began popping up in a few major shows during New York Fashion Week. I think this is something we can expect to be seeing a lot more of this winter - as LC has shown us, it's already catching on.
I'm a little on-the-fence with plaid. It's always a bit of a Hit or Miss situation, really, especially when it comes to coats. As Rihanna has demonstrated, yellow plaid has the potential to be super hot! But if we look at Peter Som's plaid on the left, which is basically just an oversized pyjama top, well I can't really say I'll be rushing out to by anything like that, anytime soon...
What do you all think? Plaid: hot or not?

Hot new shoe trend: Jelly

If anyone was in doubt that 'everything old is new again', then surely this new trend will persuade even the greatest of doubters.
As far as I'm aware, jelly flats and sandals are a fairly new trend this year, having only just recently started popping up everywhere.
To be honest, I'm not the hugest fan. Sure they're cute, and maybe comfortable (I haven't tried on a pair since I was 6), but I think it's a bit too early for 90s fashion to be making it's way back. I have no problem with other people wearing them, though. A friend of mine owns a green pair and she looks totally hot! But this is one trend I won't be investing in anytime soon. Will I be eating my words? Only time will tell...

These jelly sandals are tiny bit more my style. If I can find a cute enough pair in pink or blue then I'll probably be a sheep in this regard, and follow this one.
Which do you prefer?

2007 Red Carpet Trend: Fuschia

Oh, I just love fuschia. It's one of my favourite colours, especially to wear. So it's great to see Hollywood stars bringing this gorgeous colour back onto the red carpet scene. Roberto Cavalli, Zac Posen and John Galliano, I salute you. Lol.
My advice for adapting this 'special occasion' colour into day-wear: go small-scale. Forget the head-to-toe look, and start with just a hat, shoes or cute jewellery pieces. Then if you're feeling more comfortable with the colour (as it's a fairly bold colour and, naturally, needs to be accompanied with confidence), you can start wearing it in top/skirt form, but never at the same time and never in pants form.
You'll be pretty in pink in no time.

Catch.

Hot (and I mean HOT!) new trend

WAYFARERS!

That's right, they're back and better than ever! This 80s trend (most popularly designed by sunglasses giant Ray Ban) has garnered itself an almost cult-like collection of followers.
They're the type of trend that has divided the nation, however. Alot of people love them, and alot of people find them hideous.

Like the look of them? Sunglass Hut is your best (but not necessarily cheapest) bet. You can get a pair like this (white is more feminine than black, I reckon) for about $230AUD.
Budget? Then eBay is your new best friend! :-)
As far as retro trends, the Wayfarer is one of my favourites. It's 50s and 80s at the same time. They're pretty classy (and sometimes trashy, I admit).
Enjoy. Lol.

Catch.
