Actresses Who Should Be Models // Hit or Miss?

Last night was an interesting night, that's for sure. The official plans were to go to the cinema and see a movie, then The Bunch (there was about 8 of us) were to publicly transport ourselves back to one girl's house and stay the night. What ensued was a night of of being rained on, waiting 20 minutes for trams after midnight more than once (no joke), an after hours McDonald's stop (I sat that one out) and 3 consecutively bad movies.
There were two high points:
  • Quentin Tarantino's newest film Death Proof. Oh my it was...ah, how to describe it? At the end, I felt like it was pointless. But after 24 hours, now I'm ready to see it again. It was great! I highly recommend it!
  • The movie we saw, the basis of the entire event-filled night, St. Trinian's. Before I saw this, I completely wrote it off as crap, judging from the trailer. But I couldn't be more glad we ended up seeing it. It was definitely one of those so-bad-it's-good movies, but with an element of utter hilarity! Again, I highly recommend this.
Something I found myself thinking during St. Trinian's, was that the leading actress, of the younger cast, Talulah Riley, fell into the category of starlets that I've personally labeled Actresses Who Should Be Models. Now, don't get me wrong, the feeling has nothing to do with their acting talent. But I often find that when looking at certain actresses (or actors) I can't help but think Wow. She (or he) is so what the modeling industry is about, right now.

Talulah Riley at the UK premiere of St. Trinian's.

But maybe it's just me?

I think this girl is gorgeous. If the acting thing doesn't work out, she's got no worries about a back up career.
Of course, Talulah isn't the only girl who falls into this category. But, I've put myself on the spot now, and can't think of any others.
Do you all have anybody else to place on this list? Male or female..?

Hit or Miss?
Demi Moore is everywhere right now, promoting her new film Flawless. Here she is visiting the Letterman show in New York City. Now that we're heading into the colder months, I'm all for long trench coats. Especially black ones (so hot right now). But as I was looking over this set of photos, I felt like there was just something odd about Demi's coat. Perhaps it's the strange bow-tied strings instead of buttons, or the full length stretch of what looks like velvet (or suede, perhaps?) down the front? Whatever it is, I can't quite put my finger on it. Gorgeous gold sequined shoes, though.
My opinion? I think it's a miss, personally. But what do you all think? Did the Devil-in-an-Angel's-disguise get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Catch.

Hit or Miss?

It's double whammy this time. Boy, I sure hope Rihanna hasn't hit her peak, making two fashion faux pas (as far as I'm concerned) in the same week.
(left) Rihanna at the InStyle and Grammy Salute to Fashion. You know what? The one thing that makes this outfit a miss? The haircut. I don't think it looks good at all. Don't get me wrong, I usually really like this haircut, it can and does look great on lots of people. I just don't like it on Rihanna. She would have totally pulled this off with her signature asymmetrical bob, now no longer.
(right) Rihanna at the Grammys. Again, it's the haircut. But, even with the bob, I still don't think she would have looked too hot. It's just the wrong dress for her, in general. The colour looks great, but the cut and overall shape are just wrong for Rihanna.
But what do you think? Did the umbrella-toting-high-noting-singer get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Hit or Miss?

You know I usually don't like to comment on celebrities' street style, because who am I to judge what they wear in their personal time? But I'm not judging Mischa's outfit, I'm just questioning it, really. I'm confused. A few years ago, not even that long ago, she was a style icon. What happened? Perhaps it's the fired-the-stylist case? Maybe this is is just the real Mischa? Either way, just wanted to know what everyone thought.
What do you think? Did the obviously-former-style-icon get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Hit or Miss?

Miranda Kerr at the G'Day USA: Australia Week 2008 black tie gala. I think that Miranda is absolutely stunning, one of the most gorgeous women out there. But, personally, I don't like this look. The gown is divine, but the shoes are just wrong. If she'd have worn her hair long and flowing (and open-toed shoes) she would have looked gentler, and more feminine. Right now the look is just a tad harsh. But what do you think? Did the newly-winged-Angel get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Hit or Miss?

I love Drew Barrymore. She's one of my favourite actresses. Her fashion sense has been up and down for most of her adult life (living it in public, and all) - but lately she's been spot on with her choices. In my opinion, this is one of those times. She looks chic and relaxed, working this very simple, almost-military-style frock with a splash of colour. Nice work Drew.
But what do you think? Did the once-bad-now-squeaky-clean girl get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Hit or Miss?

I believe there's an old saying coined for starlets who land themselves on 'questionable fashion' lists more than once: 'Dress me bad once - shame on you, dress me bad twice - shame on me'. I'm sorry but, get yourself a new stylist, girl!
It's wonderful that Amy is taking risks, I admire her courage. But this is all wrong. She's pale so black usually wouldn't be a big problem, but she's chosen to wear her hair up which makes the whole thing look too sharp and takes away the potential warmth her skin colour could achieve in this outfit. The red lipstick clashes with her hair. And the bow...well do I really need to say it?
Unfortunately, for me, this is a definite miss. But what do you think? Did the Enchantress herself get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Hit or Miss?

Miley Cyrus takes a well-earned shopping break, after adding new dates to her sell-out tour. Usually I hate it when 'Hit or Miss's feature celebrities out and about, because it's unfair to judge people on their everyday outfits, and I swore I would never do it. But I'm totally loving this outfit, I've only put it here to find out what everyone else thinks of it.
So then, what do you think? Did the tweeny-mega-star get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Hit or Miss?

This pic of Scarlett (holding hands with Ryan Reynolds, after landing at LAX Airport) is from a few months ago, but I just came across it (or re-came across it) today, and I just really couldn't go past it. I just have to say...what was she thinking? We can see she's tried to go for a bit of a quirky, off-beat look, but unfortunately hasn't pulled it off. Scarlett's usually very fashion-savvy, but this just doesn't make sense...But what do you think? Did the-multiple-Sexiest-Woman-In-The-World get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Hit or Miss?

This could totally have been nice. If Amy had chosen slightly darker colours, or perhaps even considered a light fake tan (I am probably paler than Amy and am very proud of it, so I'm in no way condoning fake tanning), then there would be no problem. Just a minor hiccup, that she's going to cop flack for. But what does she care? She's made out with some of Hollywood's hottest men (Leo DiCaprio, Patrick Dempsey and Ryan Phillipe to name a few)...she doesn't have anything to worry about.
Lucky girl.

Hit or Miss?

Hmm....to be honest, I never really liked this outfit to begin with, when Natalia Vodianova wore it at the Balenciaga Spring show. But, now that I'm looking it at closer, I think it sort of suits Jennifer Connelly. I think she looks good. Not great, not bad. Just...good. The shoes are a bit much though. But what do you think? Hit or Miss?

Ok. This is a toughie. There are positive and negative things about this outfit. The question is: does the good outweigh the bad?
The colours are beautiful. The dress resembles some sort of ancient roman cathedral (or is just me? Lol). But the bottom half, is just a disaster. The mermaid skirt is a tough look to pull off, and surely you'd think a stunner like Charlize Theron (at this year's Venice Film Festival) could make it work, but I don't think it's her fault. The skirt is all over the place. And not in a good way.
Maybe, if the bottom half was cut differently, it would look more flattering?
But what do you think? Did the-woman-who-couldn't-be-a-monster-if-she-tried (well maybe if she really tried) get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Hit or Miss?

High-waisted jeans are an up-and-down trend right now. Some hate them. Some love them. Some think they're just ok. Elise Neal obviously likes them. As much as I don't particularly like high-waisted jeans, there are some that seem to really pull them off (was that a pun?). Fergie, for one example. Elise for another. She looks great, I think. The jeans are a bit too short, that would be my only critique. Oh wait, the leopard-print shoes are a tad tacky also. But she looks happy, so who cares?

Hit or Miss?

It's good to see Kate Bosworth looking a little more curvaceous these days. But I'm afraid that's the only good thing I can say about this look. I don't really see how anyone could get away with a dress like this. I'm sure it looks gorgeous on a coat-hanger, but...
Kate almost always looks fab, but this is one of those instances where she almost got it right. What do you think? Did the blue (and brown)-eyed beauty get it right? Or oh so wrong?

Hit or Miss?

Tent dresses don't work IMO. Hilary looks great here (at the MuchMusic Awards), the colour is a nice contrast to her skin tone, her hair is long and luscious and she is wearing some cute shoes! It's all fab except the tent dress.
That is all.

Hit or Miss?

Kate Mara at the premiere for the movie Stardust. I don't really know what else to say. I don't like this outfit, personally. The colour is all wrong for her skin tone. The hair do says 'casual' whereas the actual dress says 'dressy', that can sometimes work but...sorry not in this case. Oh well, at least she's pretty lol.

Hit or Miss?

Yes, another one. But can you honestly blame me? A Hit or Miss post is always way fun!
Ok, so we all know that ankle boots are super hot right now, and have even been dubbed the coveted adjective flattering, but is that really true? Look at Mischa Barton here (at a Christian Dior show). She looks great in almost anything, but here her legs just look a tiny bit...stumpy. Plus she's paired the shoes with a completely unmatching dress (and not in a good way). Sorry Mischa, but it's two thumbs down from me.

Hit or Miss?

I just saw this in the People magazine Hit or Miss section and thought, "honestly, do you even need to ask?" I mean, look at her. Look at the dress. It's simply amazing! I'ts breathtakingly beautiful. But this picture is quite old, it's from the American Music Awards way back in November. Sorry it's old, I just thought it would be interesting to see what everyone else thought...
