Quote of the Week

"We loved your US election spoofs. Ever thought of running for office?
One day I think that would be a great idea. Maybe in 20 years.
What would you do?

I'd stop the war and bring world peace by making all the world leaders best friends! Oh, and I'd paint the White House pink and build a cute doghouse for the First Dogs."
Paris Hilton, and her thoughts on American politics.

You know, sometimes I feel a little bit sorry for Paris Hilton. Wait, now give me a chance to explain myself. Haha. The thing is, Paris Hilton has this incredibly specific public image which she will never live down. She may appear air-headed almost all of the time, but deep down it seems as if the girl has a good heart. It may look like a stupid act, but I do genuinely believe that she wants the world to be a good place, and believes in the goodness of others. She may be "dumb" and "famous for nothing" (labels that the public seem determined to have her stuck with forever), but the simple fact is not everybody can be intelligent. In fact, I think people place far too much emphasis on intelligence -- once one is deemed "uninteliigent" they are simply and, in most cases permanently, written off.
But what about the other facets of human nature? Why is the emphasis only on the size of one's brain, when the size of one's heart is just as big a show of character?
At the risk of sounding totally self-righteous (I assure you, I'm not), I just have to say this:
I don't know Paris Hilton, so I'm not in any position to judge whether she truly is a good person or not, but the simple fact is nobody else is in the position to make the opposite judgement either.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that this doesn't just apply to Paris Hilton; we're living in a cynical and judgemental world, and it's a tragedy. I would love it if the focus shifted from negative to positive sometime soon...

I like your take on this, but to me personally, the 'dumb bimbo' act is something she is making a lot of money out of, and she's milking it for all she can. I can not honestly imagine that someone who has had such incredible opportunities to travel and mingle with influential people would truly be that vapid.

i agree with you about paris. she's always going to be seen as a bimbo and i think she doesn't mind that. but i also think that its an act (most of the time) and that she is a good person.

I actually just read an article about her in nylon I believe, supposedly the whole "dumb blond" thing is really all an act. I think there is a lot of truth about that just like Jessica Simpson she was supposed to act like that for a "role" in Hollywood. It seems as we try to focus on powerful women people still want to see that dumb blond. Its really sad because she seems like she could be a really smart person if she didnt have to hide it behind her blond shield

BTW thanks i have actually considered it but right now I would love to be an fashion editor but I've always kept styling in the back of my mind

Ah Paris Hilton. I agree, it doesn't seem like she means any harm!

Great reminder to cut other people some slack - you never really know what is going on in their lives at any given time... xx

Oh my lord, she makes me wan't to hit my head against a wall. I went to a new years eve party in Sydney that she was at 2 years ago (not the one this year thank god) and she got upset and left because no one paid attention to her. Poor, sad little person. Imagine if she had dedication for the world in the position she is in, she could make such a difference.

Now I think I have to take your advice and move to the positive, that is lovely lovely advice :)

I, too, think that Paris Hilton has a great heart deep inside! I actually think she's a pretty nice girl.

Oh and thanks for stopping by my blog. You are still on my blog roll, so nothing to worry about!

I kind of agree with you! I remember she once made this video in response to McCain's use of her in his campaign video and she was so different. I actually liked her stand on the issues. Haha (:

guess we never really know the true person behind the celebrity. marilyn monroe was reportedly the same - quite intelligent behind the scenes. she could be walking down the street unnoticed and then "turn on" her marilyn persona and have people flock to her.

I don't feel sorry for paris because she doesn't keep her legs shut and she dresses trashy so no wonder she will always been seen that way.
BTW woudln't it be cool if an aboriginal became the prime minister of Australia? haha we said the samething here in Canada.
