Paris gets released from jail...

Good for her.

I'm not being sarcastic, by the way.

Spice Girls reunion? We can only hope :-)

I have been waiting for this news for 9 years. Ever since 1998, when I was informed that my favourite member (Geri) of my favourite group (Spice Girls, natch) was leaving to pursue a solo career, my faith in the world hasn't been the same. In all honesty, though, I'm not sure that now is the best time for a reunion. 3 out of the 5 have kids now, so it won't be the same as old times, but it's something, at least. I wonder if by 'reunion' they mean a reunion concert, or a new album, or something stupid like they'll all be together in the same room or something....I'm not positive on all the details, clearly, but I am excited. I hope I'm not the only one.

Where to turn for winter coats

Like these? They're from Bardot. I love Bardot, it's one of my favourite stores. And it just keeps getting better, because it seems Bardot have all that you need when it comes to winter cover-ups.
This one is Bardot as well.

Also in my travels, I found a few chances pieces at Sporstgirl, that were just too cute to pass up. Give it a go.

Chanel mascara from a magazine...the easy way out

I bought the new issue of InStyle (Australia) today. Wow. I always thought that my heart belonged to Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, but flipping through the opening pages of InStyle, I think my mind was changed. It's just so classy. Don't get me wrong, I love Vogue and Harper's to bits, but I do usually have a tiny problem with them being the slightest bit snobby and not giving much of a chance to women who don't have $2000 to spend on a purse. But InStyle isn't like that.
I loved almost every little thing in this issue (quite the opposite to my relationship with Vogue and Harper's)...from the piece on Sarah Murdoch, to this issue's ManOfStyle (Adam Brody, yummy), to the fashion insider/celebrity insider, to the Celebrity Weddings and even the little piece they had on London (my future hometown).
But the best surprise was the purse-sized Chanel Inimitable mascara that came free with the magazine.I wore it today and it works quite well as a day mascara. It did everything it promises: lengthens, seperates and makes my lashes look really nice (I had to go check in the mirror to make sure what I was saying was true, lol). I recommend this mascara, if not for it's practical services but just to own something that bears a Chanel logo.
I also recommend purchasing the new InStyle, like the mascara, it delivers everything it promises.

Favourite fashion mags

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I love magazines. They're so much fun! Especially fashion magazines. Here are my personal favourites:
Vogue- Honestly, Vogue is just classic. Is there any fashionista out there who doesn't love Vogue? Hooray to the crew for creating a new and exciting issue every month! My one dislike about Vogue, however, is the covers (Australian Vogue). There is just something about them, I can't help but think they could just be...better.
Harper's Bazaar- I love Harper's for it's wit. Most of the articles are written from a subjective point of view, and while that may be bad in some cases, I find it more interesting to read than just facts and figures. Plus, the fashion is just so...exclusive. Juicy, juicy stuff.
Russh- I'm new to this one (I don't think they have international versions of this one, just Australian), but the moment I picked it up I fell in love with it. It's very retro, but it only makes it more endearing. Each issue only gets published every two months, however, instead of the standard monthly. I don't really know what else to say except, grab a copy if you can.
InStyle- InStyle is great. The only thing I don't like is that each Australian InStyle is basically a carbon copy of an American InStyle from a few months back. I know the magazine is a franchise, but I just think they could be a little more original. But besides that, I love it. :-)
Who- WHO isn't really a fashion magazine, I really just threw that in for fun. It's a trashy celebrity gossip magazine, but without the trash. WHO is probably the classiest of the celeb rags, publishing articles on regular news items as well as celeb-related ones. It has a small fashion section, also. A nice, fun read each week.

If I like them, you probably will too. :-)

Project Catwalk season 2

I've been watching this on YouTube (it's not on tv here in Australia) and I don't think the episode announcing the winner is up there. I've looked everywhere to try and find out who won but they're nowhere to be found. Can someone please help??

Shopping and magazines: the perfect way to pass time :-)

Yesterday I went on a special birthday shopping trip. And special it was. My aunty took me to Chapel St (the best shopping district in Melbourne). I was so excited. And I was very glad that I wore my nice clothes, because I noticed as soon as we got there, that the dress code was anything designer. If what the street folk of Chapel are wearing is anything to go by, then say hello to a whole new season of trenches, scarves and boots over jeans. Honestly, everywhere I looked women were wearing this exact combination of clothing. Which is great, those three things are one of my favourite winter trends. Another thing that I saw in abundance: hooded jackets with stretchy sleeves. You know the ones I'm talking about? I'm trying to look up what they're called but the internet is being very unhelpful. Anyway, I've decided I must get my hands on one of those jackets. They are the kind of jacket that almost always has a busy pattern, so be sure to pair them (if you're going to wear them with a pair of boots over your jeans) with a very plain boot. Nothing over-the-top. Let the jacket do the talking ;-). Also, you'll probably need to wear dark jeans, or if you're jacket is already quite dark, then lighter jeans. It's quite simple, really, lol.
I also bought the new WHO magazine (along with a book called 'Pretty Little Liars' by Sara Shepard, and an album 'A Beautiful Lie', 30 Seconds to Mars). It was their sexiest people issue. Now, usually I agree with their Sexiest Man and Woman choices (last year was Jake Gyllenhaal and Scarlett Johansson), but this year's, Brad Pitt and Jessica Alba, I just don't understand. Sure, they're both sexy, but they're also both very 2006. This is the 2007 issue people! It didn't actually get me that riled up, I'm exaggerating because I'm about to go to a party, and I'm nervous that there won't be enough food. Oh dear. My bag (a Guess bag no less, which I'm very proud of) is full to the brim of back-up things: snacks, hair accessories, money. Well, wish me luck.

Can't wait for...'Crazy Hot"!

'The Au Pairs', by Melissa De La Cruz. The book series I've been loving (not as much as Harry Potter, though, of course) since I first opened book 1 a few years back. Now it's already time for book 4. It's crazy. Or should I say say crazy hot? Sorry, that was lame lol.
It started out with the three main characters, Eliza, Jacqui and Mara bunking up with an uber-rich family, the Perry's, in the Hamptons for the summer. The only catch is that they're supposed to be au pairs, which in the Hamptons is pretty much social suicide (thanks 'Mean Girls', lol ;-). Au pairs to 4 spoilt brat kids. As the summer progress, so do their relationships, with eachother, with the Perry bunch, and with rest of the Hamptons crowd.
Book 2, 'Skinny Dipping', sees one change: Eliza is no longer an au pair, but instead becomes the door-bitch to the hottest new club in the Hamptons which takes her right where she wants to be: the top of the social ladder, again. While Mara uncharacteristically party hops, her on-off relationship with the oldest Perry kid, Ryan, is facing new tests: his name is Garrett Reynolds and he's practically dripping with money. Jacqui finds herself in the middle of strange flirtations, and also finds that she's the only one doing her job.
Book 3, Sun-Kissed, resembles the pages of the Devil Wears Prada at times, but doesn't fail to deliver. Eliza is working for a has-been fashion designer vying for a comeback; Jacqui is Anna Perry's (the children's stepmother) best friend; and Mara shows the Hamptons her sharp tongue when she becomes a gossip columnist.
And now it's time for the latest installment Crazy Hot. I'm so excited and can't wait to get my hands on this one! They've all been really, really enjoyable so far, and I'm hoping this one will be no exception. As for the others, I highly recommend these books for a fun, easy, shallow (although, depth is not non-existent in this series) read.
Seriously, check them out. :-)

Lost in a sea of (mostly) beauty: ad campaigns

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I was flipping through my first copy of US Vogue today, May 2007, and couldn't help but notice the ad campaigns. And by 'couldn't help but notice', I mean there were so many they practically slapped me across the face.
I counted 43 ad campaigns, and that was just until the editor's letter. The of this 43 were actually displayed in between Ms. Wintour's letter. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Vogue devotee as much as the next girl, but I personally don't understand the need for all these ads...? The magazine inadvertently advertises hundreds and hundreds of brands anyway, jam packed into articles, photo shoots and style (etc...) tips.
But obviously, I'm not saying get rid of them all together (after all, one of my favourite hobbies is to check out which new, or old, models are hot on the ad campaign scene these days...). Just cut it down from, what seems like 150, to perhaps 50. Having said that, though, there were a few that caught my eye.
L'Oreal HiP:
Ok, is it just me, or does Milla Jovovich look exactly like Linda Evangelista in this ad? Tommy Hilfiger: Now here are some ads we need more of...It's all so beautiful. The setting, the outfits, the models. Honestly, they're some of the most perfect ad campaigns I've ever seen. Versace: I love that Versace is all about shapes, and femininity these days. Kudos to Donatella for making minimality look sexy. Marc Jacobs: does the fact that Dakota Fanning is being robbed of her childhood really need to be any more apparent than it already is? I'm sorry but I hate this ad. I don't know what they were hoping to achieve with this one but all I see when I look at it is sleaze. Poor Dakota. Chanel: God, could these be any less what Chanel is about? Marco Bicego: Leo's new girlfriend, Bar Refaeli... she's pretty. BVLGARI: Could Stam be any more stunning? Perfect spokesmodel for Bulgari.

Anyway, that's pretty much the only interesting thing that's happened to me today, so far, but don't worry, I'll keep you all posted.

Welcome

Hi. :-)
My name is Romany. I love fashion and like writing about it. I don't really know what I want to do with my life, obviously something in fashion. I guess I'll decide someday, at a later stage. But for now, I've decided that I'd like to put my thoughts on fashion (and on anything else, really) out there for others to read. Who knows? It could be interesting.
At times, I may sound cynical. But believe me, I'm not. If I had to choose a Sex and the City character that I'm most like, I'd pick Charlotte (now that says something, right?). Although at times, I'm way more like Samantha, and don't understand why Charlotte gets so worked up about certain things. So, I guess, I'm a mixture of both. See, I managed to work a Sex and the City reference into my first post. How do you like that? Lol.
My all time favourite show is The OC. Followed closely by Sex and the City, Seinfeld, Jonathan Creek, Desperate Housewives, Australia's/America's Next Top Model, The Hills and The Simpsons.
My all time favourite film is Titanic. Followed very closely by Love Actually, The Devil Wears Prada and The Departed.
My all time favourite singer is Madonna.
My favourite colours are pink, green and white.
Do I sound like a girly-girl? Good, because I am. :-)

Anyways, that's probably enough ranting for one post.

Catch.
